StuRents is a fast-growing startup transforming student accommodation through smart use of established and emerging technologies. For this we're expanding a team that's tech-first in how we approach problems, design solutions and support our users. We don't silo members into teams who are segregated but instead want everybody focused on how to drive the technology forwards, whether that's led by engineering, marketing, sales or customer support.

Back end PHP developer

We are looking for a web application engineer, with a focus on server-side application code & infrastructure.

We think you'd like to work with us if you're interested in some of the following:

  • Building expansive web applications in well-written PHP, using Symfony components
  • Using technology to solve real problems presented by property managers & tenants
  • Caring for users by protecting privacy, providing security, ensuring uptime & making good use of logging/metrics
  • Assessing requirements to produce accurate specifications and iterating on these with feedback from the team & users
  • Writing code that others can easily read, modify and expand on
  • Testing your work with automated tools to guarantee accuracy and performance
  • Contributing changes to open source libraries which are used by the team
  • Having responsibility to determine how solutions are implemented and maintaining these in live use

It's essential that you:

  • Have a high level of knowledge in 1+ of PHP, Python, Ruby, JavaScript, Java, Go
  • Have developed framework-based web applications in one of the above languages
  • Have good knowledge of SQL and at least one SQL database - has developed performant production applications using SQL
  • Have good knowledge of version control concepts and git specifically
  • Are confident in Unix terminal environments

You'll also benefit from:

  • Knowledge of automated testing frameworks & continuous integration services
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud environment
  • An awareness of infrastructure as code tools (e.g. AWS CDK, Terraform, Pulumi)
  • An interest in information security or penetration testing

We're keen for you to have a degree in a technical field and a few years' relevant experience.

Quality assurance tester

We are looking for a tester to work with our ambitious product roadmap and ensure we deliver quality features for our clients.

We think you'd like to work with us if you're interested in some of the following:

  • Working with a comprehensive piece of software that serves a wide range of user needs
  • Gaining an understanding of how different client businesses function
  • Collaborating with product teams to ensure specifications are clear and meet customers' needs

It's essential that you:

  • Have a good range of experience using software-as-a-service platforms
  • Have an eye for detail and can think of how different users might behave
  • Are skillful at communicating and keeping concise readable notes on their testing

You'll also benefit from:

  • Any knowledge of programming, building websites or administering computer systems
  • Experience designing software or websites

We're keen for you to have a degree in a relevant field.

Quality assurance engineer

We are looking for a test automation engineer to link product and development teams with automated testing and formal specifications.

We think you'd like to work with us if you're interested in some of the following:

  • Contributing to product assurance by formalising specifications
  • Working with the development team to develop scalable testing patterns
  • Assisting in determining the best routes for test automation infrastructure
  • Experimenting with new ways to monitor and ensure quality of production applications

It's essential that you:

  • Are experienced using software-as-a-service platforms
  • Have knowledge of test automation frameworks such as Selenium
  • Have knowledge of specification languages such as Gherkin
  • Have an eye for detail and can think of how different users might behave
  • Are skillful at communicating and setting out test plans for others to follow

You'll also benefit from:

  • Knowledge of JavaScript or PHP
  • Experience designing software or websites

We're keen for you to have a degree in a technical field and a few years' relevant experience.
