Liverpool's residents have been given the opportunity to attend a three-day town hall hearing in Liverpool city centre which began yesterday regarding purpose built student flats. There have been rising concerns among local citizens that the development of student accommodation is set to outweigh the demand, and hence will affect those areas of the city where large proportions of those students leave to return home in the holidays.
The evidence produced across the three-day meeting will be utilised to help inform the review group - which is made up of representatives from each of the student, developer and local resident communities - towards the final decision about their policy regarding the development of student accommodation. They are there to listen and hear the opinions of all those who will be impacted by potential development plans.
It has been announced that the concluding decision will be finalised over the following summer and reviewed by the Cabinet.
