New 244-Bed Derby Block Given the Go-Ahead

Last night a new 244-bed student accommodation block in Derby was given the go-ahead by the City Council. The proposed development in Agard Street is a nine-storey block that (after last night's decision) will be built next to the University of Derby's Law Department.

The proposal was not without opponents though, as it was only given permission after a six-for, five-against vote at the council's planning control committee.

The council's decision also gives the developers Jensco (Derby) Ltd permission to build a connection to Friar Gate which they plan to transform into a nearby 'community space'.
