St. Modwen, the lead developer of the new £450 million Bay Campus at Swansea University, has signed a Development Agreement with Swansea University to deliver 538 new, en suite student rooms, according to an article on the university's website.

This next phase aims to commence in January 2016, with the intention of being ready for the September 2017 intake, and will bring the total number of student beds provisioned by the Bay Campus project to 2,000 by autumn 2017.

Rupert Joseland, South Wales' regional director at St. Modwen, said "The latest Agreement with the University is the next step in the long term vision to become a world-class educational establishment that will benefit students, staff and the local community for generations to come."

The existing planning consent for Bay Campus allows for a total of up 4,000 new student residences. The development will hit 50% of this figure by the September 2017 intake.

Swansea University was established in 1920 as the University College of Swansea, and is now home to nearly 15,000 students according to 2013/14 public HESA data.
