Fitz Architects, a Sunderland based developer, has submitted plans for a 78 bed student block on the site of a derelict building in the city. The consultation phase of the submission will go on until Febuary 15th, after which point the council will deliberate. A decision on whether the development will go ahead will be made in April.
A former sailworks which now lies empty on Whickham Street will make way for the five-storey structure. It will likely cater to Sunderland University student at the nearby St Peter's Campus. It will also cater to disabled students with extra facilties designed to properly accommodate them.
