CSG Glasgow Want to Turn Their Back on Student Accommodation Plans

With the student accommodation market booming it's not often you see a developer dropping their plans for a purpose-built block voluntarily, but that's exactly what CSG Glasgow are hoping to do this month.

Last year they bought a plot of land on George Street for £5 million with the understanding that the land would house a 10-storey accommdoation block with 375 student units, 59 serviced apartments and 24,000 sq feet of retail space. However they are now applying to the council to change their use of the land, as they are now looking to build a hotel.

Their reasoning is explained in a report sent to the council, "The hotel scheme would replace the proposed student use on the site, broadens the use of the site and offers a more prestigious frontage on George Street."

"This change also responds to the increased number of student accommodation schemes in the city and the perception of potential over-supply."

The new hotel complex would have between 190 and 260 rooms.
