The University of Sussex Wants to Bet Big on Housing

As the University of Sussex looks to dramatically redevelop its Falmer campus, the number of student bedrooms provided by the university could more than treble from 600 to 2,000.

In what could be a blow to the private student rental market in the area, the university has announced its housing plans as it looks to house more students in its own property to the north Brighton.

The development which was given initial planning permission last year, will replace many buildings on the campus that were built in the 1970s, increasing their capacity, and updating their design. If completely approved work could begin as soon as January, with the first wave of construction scheduled to finish in autumn 2018.
