A new student accommodation scheme in Colchester proposed by Victoria Hall Management looks like it will be refused by ColChester Council after the council's planning committee voted against the plans last week, effectively halting progress on the application.
Previously a report about the site had suggested that their proposal would be accepted, but now a follow-up report will look into the possibility of refusing plans for good.
Victoria Hall's proposals would involve demolishing a former bus depot on Magdalen Street, replacing it with a five-block building that would house up to 230 students.
As ever the reasons given to refuse permission to build centre around the negative impact planners perceive the site will have on its surroundings. Their concerns specifically include a reported 'adverse impact on adjacent listed buildings' and the quite fundamental worry that the plans might not be in accordance with their brief for the site.
