As Swansea's Student Numbers Grow, so Must Its Accommodation

Posted by Ross Jones-Morris in

Varsity Projects Limited have formally submitted plans for a new 725-bed student development opposite Swansea Railway Station. The application is now being deliberated by Swansea Council, though they are yet to set a date for their decision.

The specifics of the plans are still up in the air as well, as the height of the property is yet to be decided with the bedrooms in the development potentially spanning anything from 6 to 22 storeys. The building will also have 4 ground floor commercial units as well as 13 parking spaces (down from 107 in the original plans). in addition to this 200 bike storage spaces are planned.

The development looks set to take advantage of growing student numbers at both major universities in the city. The developer also hopes that it will free up housing in the city, as they say in their planning statement, "in addition to accommodating students within bespoke, purpose-built, high quality student accommodation, the development of such a high number of beds will also help to release the pressure on traditional family housing elsewhere in the city that is currently occupied by students."
