Newcastle University Finds a Contractor for its New Student Village

Newcastle University has found a contractor to head up its new £75 million accommodation development. Construction is due to start shortly.

The Park View Student Village development will see the demolition of a large 1970's development on Richardson Road. These will make way for six new buildings housing 1,300 students between them in en-suite accommodation. The announcement today that Galliford Try has been appointed as head contractor for the Park View Student Village development means that the demolition can go underway over summer. Construction of the new buildings will then begin, with a scheduled completion date of September 2018.

Alongside the new accommodation a new energy centre for the local community will be created to help with the infrastructure requirements that come with a development of this size.

The Head of Residences at Newcastle University had this to say of the announcement, “We are delighted to be working with Galliford Try to design and deliver the new Park View Student Village accommodation scheme which will see the demolition of outdated student accommodation replaced with the high quality facilities today's students need and expect.”
