19th Century Huddersfield Pub to Be Turned into Student Flats

Posted by Richard Ward in

Plans have been submitted to turn the old New Wharf pub at Aspley into luxurious student accommodation, primarily geared toward overseas students. The block will consist of one and two bed apartments as well as studio flats.

An approval had previously been given to demolish the pub in its entirety, however the work never began.

The new plan aims to build a modern five storey student block on the corner of Wakefield Road and Firth Street in Huddersfield and will be built around the Victorian fa├žade. It's therefore seen as more sympathetic than the previous scheme.

The block will provide a total of 45 bedrooms all coming with ensuite Bathrooms. The development will also come with its own concierge service and a dedicated cycle store.

Although the pub itself is not listed it does find itself next to a row of Grade 2 listed properties. The current plans are open for public consultation until June 21.
