Students Unhappy Over Rent Refunds

A new set of student flats are looking like they will get the go-ahead this week from the city's planning chiefs. The accommodation, in Selly Oak, falls under plans to regenerate the former Battery Park Site.
Although the original plans to develop the site were approved last December and included plans for 424 student bedrooms, the decision was made to re-submit them in April.
As a result, the application now outlines plans for 418 bedrooms in studios and shared flats located across three blocks of varying heights with the tallest of which being 18 storeys.
The length of the building has also been decreased by 12 metres to facilitate more public realm, whilst a public square has been added and accommodation originally outlined for level 1 has been removed in favour of communal and ancillary use.
It's understood that city councillors have been recommended to approve the project when they discuss it at this week's planning committee meeting being held on Thursday.
