A family-run electrical retailer based in York city centre is to move out of its current site and will be replaced by student accommodation.

The current site, homed to Herbert Todd and Son, will be redeveloped and a planning application has been made for student homes on the plot.

The 105-bed development will join a series of other student housing sites in the nearby vicinity, including the 648-bed Student Castle complex on Walmgate. It's understood that the new development will improve the current streetscape of the area, as it will be more in keeping with its surroundings.

The proposed plans for the student accommodation will consist of a mix of one, three, five and six bedroom en-suite apartments and townhouses with leisure facilities such as a games room, gym, cinema, common room, study space and a courtyard area.
