A 25-storey student accommodation block has been proposed for Cardiff's city centre.
Last year an application was approved for a 23-storey, 180-unit apartment block to be built on the site next to Herbert Street and the Dock Feeder canal, in an area of the city that was being called the city's Capital Quarter.
However, developers have had a change of heart and have now decided that student accommodation would be a better use of the vacant site. Architects Corstorphine + Wright have submitted plans on behalf of Fusion Students for a 674-bed student accommodation development.
The building will also come equipped with laundry facilities, study rooms and offices for support staff. According to the developer the site will have a touch of luxury to the development with an onsite gym and cinema.
It's hoped that the inclusion of student housing will help to bring diversity and vibrancy to the area and that the due to its location there is an opportunity to create a vibrant mix of uses in the area.
According to the developer the site is in one of the most important growth areas of the city as it sits between the city centre and Cardiff Bay, and is only minutes from Cardiff University, Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of South Wales.
