A new student accommodation block located in central Preston is set to take its first undergraduates arriving at the city's University of Central Lancashire.

The £18m Friargate Court, managed by student accommodation provider Portergate, is a newly built 244-bed student accommodation scheme in the heart of Preston's University Quarter.

The complex will officially open its doors on September 19 ready for the new academic year.

Portergate is also helping to deliver three new modern retail units on the site and hopes that it will help kick-start the wider regeneration of the historic Friargate area.

According to Portergate managing director Karen Preece, the site has taken bookings and enquiries from both the UK and all parts of the world. Karen also said that: "Friargate Court will set a very high standard for student accommodation and that can only be good for UCLan as it aims to attract the best students from around the globe".

Portergate's accommodation offers students hands on management staff available 24/7, something that appeals to both students and parents.

The company is now recruiting for people to run the halls of residence.
