The latest student accommodation in Aberdeen is set to welcome its first residents ahead of the start of the new academic year.

Provided by Alumno Development, the six storey tall property on 2 Powis Place can accommodate 196 students and reportedly is already 70% let.

According to managing director of Alumno Developments, David Campbell, the new building will help provide Aberdeen's student population with lodgings for generations to come.

In addition, not only was the site completed on schedule, the company was also able to provide structural engineering students from Aberdeen university an opportunity to tour the site earlier on the construction phase. This provided the students with direct experience of a live project at a critical time in their studies.

The accommodation comes at a crucial time, as space for students has become scarce in Aberdeen as increasing numbers of young people come to the city to study at the two universities and other higher education institutions.

In 2014 more than 200 freshers were forced to live in temporary housing, following a huge surge in accommodation applications.
