Downing is responsible for the new site, named Verde, which marks the final phase of the £250m Downing Plaza development.
SimponHaugh and Partners were designated as the architects for the scheme, which in total can accommodate 543 students across a mix of cluster flats and studios.
The 11-storey high building also comes equipped with a cinema, games room, a gym and a landscaped courtyard area.
According Downing's chief executive Ann Lodge, the company has entered into an agreement with Newcastle University to let all of the 431
cluster rooms to its first-year students.
SimpsonHaugh and Partners also said of the scheme: "Verde is deliberately striking in colour and form, creating a new landmark in this area of Newcastle city centre and forming a distinctive gateway between the University and Science Central".
The brand new student accommodation certainly sticks out from the crowd, with the building featuring a green terracotta tile facade.
