Student accommodation developer CityBlock has begun work on a scheme in the city of Lancaster, along with a further project in Reading as the company looks to expand its reach into the UK's university cities.

Located on Penny Street the Lancaster student accommodation scheme will include 70 en-suite bedrooms situated across five floors and will include retail space on the ground floor.

Titan Group has been appointed as the principal contractor on the development, which is due for completion in August 2017. The site located in Reading involves the conversion of an office block into student housing consisting of 134 studio apartments, and will also be ready in time for the academic year in 2017.

Chief executive of CityBlock, Trevor Bargh, said: "This is a significant milestone for our business as we look to extend our portfolio to include a number of other top university cities in the UK. Having already completed five student accommodation blocks in Lancaster and Leicester, we are confident in our ability to deliver high levels of student satisfaction, with a focus on accessibility and convenience."
