A new £75 million student accommodation scheme in Cardiff has been given the go-ahead after the announcement that construction will begin next year.

The Glossop Halls scheme will see the demolition of the former West Wing of the Cardiff Royal Infirmary, replacing the building with 644 student rooms set across 181 studios, 453 cluster flats and 10 apartments.

The development will also include a library, gym, study space and multimedia room and is scheduled for completion just in time for the 2019/20 academic year.

The COO of Mace Developments, David Grover, has said of the project, "The current availability of private sector student accommodation in Cardiff is generally considered below expected standards, so in delivering circa 650 new student accommodation beds, this scheme will also help reduce student demand for private housing in the area".
