Plans for student housing in Bedford Street, Leamington have been given the go-ahead.

The proposals call for the demolition of the Leamington nightclub Rio's, which will be replaced with a student accommodation development consisting of 46 beds split across four storeys. Each bedroom will share a kitchen and dining room and will be set around a central courtyard.

Local officers had recommended Warwick District Council planning committee refuse the application. Concerns had been raised over a lack of parking for the size of the development, however this didn't stop the committee granting planning permission.

Planning committee chair Coun John Cooke said: "Having listened to the cases put forward by the council's officers and public speakers, on this occasion the planning committee came to a different decision to our officers, as they felt the proposed development would improve this part of Bedford Street."
