The international student accommodation company GSA has been granted planning permission to develop a 571-bed student housing scheme at Brunswick Street in Dublin.

The purpose-built student accommodation represents part of a wider EUR 250 million investment in Dublin over the next five years.

The site will not only feature student accommodation but also 3,700sq m of retail space, including a supermarket.

The development has received funding from Ulster Bank and follows the planning approval which GSA received to refurbish the 101-bed site at Broadstone Hall. Dubai based GSA is also developing a further two student accommodation sites in Dublin alongside joint venture partner Harrison Street Real Estate Capital.

The Irish Government's strategy for education includes the goal of increasing international enrolment in higher education by 33% by 2020.

With limited student housing on or off campus in Dublin, developers are seeking the opportunity to fill the shortfall.

Aaron Bailey, development director for GSA Dublin said: "GSA is delighted to receive planning permission for the Brunswick Street site, the latest in a series of student accommodation investments that the group is making in Dublin.

"This latest approval signals real progress in our long-term plans for investment in Dublin."
