Planning permission has been granted to develop a new student accommodation scheme consisting of over 100 student apartments in Kenilworth, Warwickshire.

Set to open in time for the 2019 academic year, the 105 student apartments will sit alongside five new retail units.

The scheme will expand on the existing Talisman Shopping Centre, which is already home to retailers such as WHSmith, Boots and Costa, as well as several local independent stores.

The project is expected to cost around £10 million and is being developed by Discovery Properties, in partnership with Cobalt Estates. The site is currently being used as a temporary car park.

Plans had been for the student housing element to be ready in time for the 2018 academic year, however delays in the planning application process has pushed back the expected completion date to the following year.

Chief Executive of Discovery Properties, Hugo Hawkings said: "We are delighted to have been granted planning consent to continue our investment in the development of Talisman.

"Developing the north side of the centre has been an important part of our long-term vision for Talisman and will bring multiple benefits to Kenilworth, including new retailers, jobs and wealth to the town and surrounding area."

Various additional student housing projects have recently been approved in Kenilworth, Coventry and the surrounding area.
