Work has begun on a £6 million student accommodation project situated on Exeter's Frog Street.

The development will replace the current Radmore & Tucker building and will consist of 98 luxury apartments rather than the originally planned 125. The building will also come equipped with a rooftop garden.

The current building on Frog Street has been the home of machinery specialist Radmore & Tucker for the past 20 years, but the company subsequently moved to a new location in Springwell, Ide, to make way for the student development.

Create Construction has been awarded the contract for the £6m student housing project on behalf of Maven Capital Partners.

The project is due for completion in time for the 2018-19 academic year.

Adrian Tottey, managing director of Create Construction said of the development: "We are delighted to have the opportunity to deliver another exciting project in Exeter. The Frog Street scheme is a very challenging build.

"Planning the detailed design and construction methodology will see the best of our collaborative approach with the client and design teams. On completion, the building will provide an excellent student facility with extremely high design and quality standards."
