Building work is progressing on the site of the former West's Garage in Cambridge that will result in a student accommodation development consisting of 202 bedrooms.
Situated in the centre of Cambridge, on the corner of Newmarket Road and River Lane the development is well underway with Watkin Jones Group demolition all existing buildings.
The new student accommodation will come equipped with communal facilities, cycle parking and an external landscaped area.
Planning permission for the site was granted on appeal by the Government's Planning Inspector after Cambridge City Council's planning committee turned down the original proposals in May 2015.
The committee objected to the plans as they felt the building "would be poorly integrated into the locality" and "would overwhelm the houses on the opposite side of River Lane, visually dominating them to an undue extent and creating an unacceptable sense of enclosure."
In addition, objections were raised over the lack of provision for open space and sports facilities as well as the concern that the building would not be limited to full-time students of the University of Cambridge or Anglia Ruskin University.
The decision was overturned on appeal in January last year by the Government's Planning Inspector.
