Crosslane Student Developments has put forward plans to construct a block of purpose-built student accommodation in Swansea.

Situated on The Kingsway, the development has an anticipated gross development value of EUR 27.5 million.

The scheme will consist of 311 student beds and is due for completion in time for the 2019-20 academic year. Upon delivery, the site will be managed by Prime Student Living, the operational management arm of Crosslane.

The site is located north-west of the city centre, in close proximity to the mainline train station and the primary shopping area. The University of Wales Trinity Saint David's and The University of Swansea's main campuses are also just a short walk and bus ride away.

Under the application, the site, which is currently being used as a car park, will be developed into a new high-specification student accommodation scheme. The development will have a total of 28 self-contained studio apartments and 283 en-suite cluster flats of between five and nine bedrooms.

The plans also include a private landscaped courtyard, as well communal facilities designed to encourage collaborative working.

Commenting on the application, Lisa Timberlake, Development Manager for Crosslane Student Developments, said: "Crosslane is pleased to have submitted its planning application for a new student accommodation development on The Kingsway, Swansea. The proposed city centre scheme is close to the main shopping area and the city's mainline train station, with easy reach of both The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of Swansea. At 311 beds, the scheme will have a significant impact in easing the supply/demand fundamentals for purpose-built student accommodation in the city, as the city's two universities continue to invest heavily in their expansion."
