Plans to build student accommodation on a car park in Worcester have been given the green light by city council planners.

The student housing scheme will be split across blocks of three and four storeys with a total of 76 self-contained flats.

After an initial consultation period, the scheme was revised to reduce the height of the building from the original five storeys, to the now proposed four.

Situated on the Sansome Walk car park next to Armstrong's tailors, the planning application has been approved subject to conditions.

During the planning application process, concerns were raised over the proposed height of the scheme, the impact on privacy, the loss of car parking and the overall impact on character of the area.

Despite the objections, there were those in the area that backed the scheme, suggesting it would remove a vacant site and hide the rear elevation of the Gala Bingo.

The application and relevant section 106 agreement will restrict occupation of the flats during term time to students in full time education.
