Two substantial student accommodation developments in Belfast are to get even bigger after fresh plans were submitted.

McAleer & Rushe is currently building a 740-bed block of student housing at College Avenue, which will consist of 647 cluster bedrooms, 93 studio rooms and retail outlets on the ground floor.

The company is also creating a 476-bed scheme at McClintock Street.

However, the company has now outlined plans to increase the size of both buildings.

An additional 14 rooms are planned for the McClintock Street development and a further seven for the larger College Avenue building, which will also include two extensions on the 10th and 11th floors.

A spokesperson for the firm said of the revised plans: "planning applications have been submitted to formalise an internal reconfiguration of the space resulting in a small increase to the number of student bedrooms within the approved developments."

Planning permission for the original plans of both schemes have already been approved.

McAleer & Rushe recently announced a doubling of its pre-tax profits to £10 million and is reportedly close to landing a number of additional high-profile projects.
