A 14-storey block of student accommodation located in the centre of Swansea has been given the go-ahead.

Put forward by Crosslane Student Developments, the 307-bed development on Kingsway is scheduled for completion in time for the 2019-20 academic year.

The site currently consists of a car park and restaurant, however they'll make way for 26 self-contained studio apartments and 281 en-suite flats of between five and nine bedrooms, with work expected to begin in November of this year.

DAY Architectural have been appointed as architects for the development.

Commenting on the proposed accommodation, Lisa Timberlake, development manager at Crosslane Student Developments, said: "Crosslane is delighted to have secured planning consent for a new student accommodation development in Swansea following extensive engagement with the local planning authority and local community.

"The city centre scheme is close to the main shopping area and the city's mainline train station, and within very easy reach of both The University of Wales Trinity Saint David and the University of Swansea.

"At 307 beds, the scheme will have a significant impact in easing the supply/demand fundamentals for purpose-built student accommodation in the city, as the city’s two universities continue to invest heavily in their expansion."
