Work is underway to develop a 117-bed block of purpose-built student accommodation in Leeds.

Crosslane Student Developments has started work on the student development at Woodhouse Square in Leeds.

The new scheme is expected to have a value of around £15m and is due for completion in September 2018, in time for the start of the academic year.

The property marks the first development for the company in Leeds but follows a successful student scheme in Sheffield, which resulted in a 437-bed development being built in time for September 2017.

The latest project is located on a former car park and is situated to the north west of Leeds city centre, in a residential area on the corner of Woodhouse Square and Claremont Avenue.

The scheme has been specifically designed to complement its surroundings, in particular the Georgian style properties of Woodhouse Square.

Commenting on the scheme, Robert Goulsbra, development manager of Crosslane Student Developments, said: "We are pleased to commence construction at Woodhouse Square, our first development in Leeds, helping to meet the strong growth in demand for this type of student accommodation.

"Crosslane has invested significantly in Yorkshire, and by delivering Woodhouse Square, Crosslane will have developed a total of 554 beds in the region."
