Clare College in Cambridge is looking to demolish Regis House and replace it with a new scheme.

Under the proposals, the college is looking to build three blocks of student accommodation each consisting of four storeys.

The development will be arranged in a H shape, with 85 beds being available to graduate students. This represents a 14-bed increase on the current scheme.

According to Cambridge City Council's planning committee, the demolition of the outdated buildings is acceptable in principle as they are not deemed to be of architectural merit or cultural importance.

Documents submitted as part of the application suggest the purpose-built student accommodation would introduce a higher quality living environment for student occupants on a similar foot print and scale as the existing buildings.

Despite some concerns raised by neighbouring properties, the scheme has been recommended for approval.
