Portsmouth Council Approve 97-bed Student Scheme

Bath Cricket Club has suggested the only accommodation that could be viably built on its home ground would be student housing.
A planning application for a new indoor cricket school at the club's home ground on North Parade includes a 142-bed block of purpose-built student accommodation.
The club is seeing accommodation as a way to make more money, which could fund improvements to its facilities.
Commenting on the plans, club chairman Matt Hankins, said: "If the site were developed for market and affordable housing this would result in a burden on the emergency services and the local council in the event of a flood.
"In the event of flooding, the building would be safely evacuated and emergency accommodation provided by the University of Bath."
The accommodation would be made available to second and third-year students and postgraduates from the University of Bath.
According to Mr Hankins, the club needs to raise more money to expand its presence in the community and make cricket more engaging by improving its facilities.
The plans for new student accommodation have been lodged with Bath and North-East Somerset Council, by developers Gilltown Ltd.
