Plans have been submitted to build a huge new block of student accommodation in Birmingham's Gun Quarter.

The project will result in the development of three blocks of accommodation reaching nine, 13 and 24 storeys tall in a C-shaped complex.

The site is currently used as a car park, situated off New Town Row, next to the Lancaster Circus Queensway island.

The development will consist of 1,023 bedrooms, split between 103 studios and 158 shared flats of between five and seven bedrooms. The scheme will also contain a cinema room, reception, offices, lobby and kitchen, and the upper ground level will have a landscaped courtyard area.

Although the new complex will have no car parking spaces, it will come with space for 256 bikes and is expected to generate the equivalent of 27 full-time jobs.

The Gun Quarter area in Birmingham has seen a huge in influx in student accommodation in recent years with developments such as Penworks House, Studios 51 and Bentley House all opening. Unite Students is also set to open a 586-bed scheme on land off Staniforth Street, which is due to open next summer.
