Property and construction consultants Gleeds have been appointed to project manage phase one of Cardiff University's £32m student accommodation development.

The new development is located at the university's Talybont campus and will provide around 725 beds. The project is due to be completed in time for the start of the 2020 academic year.

The project forms part of Cardiff University's campus redevelopment programme, which will result in a further 1,310 beds being delivered by 2022.

The new student campus will consist of six-bed clusters and could make use of off-site construction methods to speed up the building process.

Gleeds will be responsible for project management services, which also includes the appointment of the design team and cost consultant.

Commenting on the appointment, Gleeds director for Wales, Simon Williams, said: "With our strong track record in the higher education sector, we feel we are best placed to deliver on the university's aspirations for this exciting on-campus, new-build scheme.

"Creating access to cutting-edge facilities is crucial to keeping universities competitive, but it's also vital to encourage more students to the area in order to help support the local workforce and economy in the years to come."
