The University of Portsmouth has inaugurated its fourth Chancellor in a ceremony held at the Portsmouth Guildhall.

Karen Blackett, the current chairwoman of MediaCom - the UK's largest media agency - was appointed on Monday, 25 years after completing her undergraduate degree at the university.

At the ceremony, Professor Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor of the university described the new Chancellor as "representative of what we stand for as a University, what we value, our broader mission in society" and "representative of our people, that is our students and staff."

In her new role Ms Blackett will act as an ambassador for the university, hosting events and attending meetings on its behalf.
