Developers have submitted plans to build a 6-storey block of student flats in Loughborough that features a 5-a-side football pitch on the roof.

The development has been earmarked for the town site, on a site bordered by Leicester Road, Pinfold Gate, Aumberry Gap and Barrow Street.

The plans have been lodged with Charnwood Borough Council by the student accommodation specialist Future Generation and consist of more than 500 beds in total.

Documents submitted as part of the application state the development seeks to deliver high quality, well managed student accommodation that focuses on providing spacious, well equipped and high-quality amenity spaces along with high quality student accommodation.

The development consists of a number of buildings including a landmark 14-storey tower and a six-storey block featuring a 5-a-side football pitch located on the roof.

The football pitch will be accessed via the central courtyard and will be open to both residents and members of the public.
Commenting on the project, Frances Turner, associated director of Future Generation, said: "This is in summary a very exciting proposal which goes right to the heart of a shared space for the existing local community and the next generation of students and workers and residents of Loughborough."

"This will go some way to provide much needed student accommodation in Loughborough and therefore seeks to reduce impact on the local private housing supply which is already stretched by student take up, whilst providing much needed community accommodation."
