Students Unhappy Over Rent Refunds
26th Jan 2021
Plans to demolish one of Cardiff's most popular restaurants and replace it with student accommodation have been withdrawn.
Councillors were due to hear an application for the Shaam Nights building at 116-118 City Road, which was earmarked for demolition.
Under the plans put forward by Piazza Estates Ltd, the restaurant would have been replaced with student accommodation.
However, once the application became public, the owners of the restaurant spoke out, suggesting they would not be forced out.
Subsequently councillors were told the application was withdrawn, for now at least. There's still a chance the application could be re-submitted, perhaps under a revised scheme.
Applicant Piazza Estate Ltd was seeking permission to knock down the existing building and replace it with student accommodation consisting of three to five storeys with six cluster flats and had been backed by planning officers.
