Reports have emerged that suggest student flats in Huddersfield are being rented out as holiday lets, against planning conditions.

Rooms in a block of student accommodation on Manchester Road, which have already been built, are being advertised on to anyone looking to stay in the accommodation.

The development was granted planning permission by Kirklees Council with the condition that the accommodation is occupied by students only, defined as persons whose main residence is elsewhere and who are enrolled on recognised full-time courses at one of the higher educational establishments in Kirklees.

A spokesman for Kirklees confirmed the property is classed as student accommodation, but it is understood the apartments have been separately advertised as hotel accommodation since August 2017.

The Huddersfield based paper The Examiner, had asked the management which runs the block to comment on the rooms being separately advertised, but their letting agent failed to respond on their behalf.
