Building work has started on a new student accommodation development in London with 700 bedrooms.

The new residence is located on Wales Farm Road and will provide accommodation for first year students in North Acton.

The project was announced in 2017 and construction work has now started, which is due for completion in 2020.

The site will come equipped with a dedicated common room, outdoor space, 27/7 concierge and a warden support system.

The rooms will be allocated as part of Imperial College London's guarantee to offer accommodation to all eligible first year undergraduates.

The students' union is involved in setting rent for halls and will be at a level that covers maintenance, capital and running costs.

Commenting on the build, Professor Simone Buitendijk, Imperial's Vice-Provost (Education), said: "We have a well-established student presence in North Acton. Our students who have lived at Woodward Buildings since it opened in 2015 have enjoyed their time there, and now we will be able to offer this experience to more of our students."
