Almost 1,400 student beds could be coming to Lincoln with Standard Life Investments looking to redevelop St Marks retail park.

The 1,386 beds will form part of the £150m redevelopment of St Marks and will be delivered in phases between 2020 and 2022.

Commenting on the application a University of Lincoln spokesperson said: "Students are at the heart of everything that we do at the University of Lincoln and we are committed to providing a total learning experience which includes ensuring high quality student accommodation."

"The location of this development is perfect for the campus and we are confident that Aberdeen Standard Investments share our ethos and belief about enhancing every element of the student experience."

The outline application for the site originally called for the construction of 1,100 student beds along with 485,000 sq ft of new retail space, a hotel and a 1,100-space car park.

However, the latest detailed application has increased the number of student beds to 1,368, which has support from the University of Lincoln.

If the latest plans are approved work could begin as early as November, with the majority of the student beds arranged in clusters of 12 sharing communal facilities.
