Student Portfolio Up for Sale
15th Jan 2021
Plans to build up to 252 student flats in Norwich city centre have been refused by councillors.
Developer SCY Student Accommodation Ltd had originally intended to build 280 student flats, but revised plans saw it reduced in size. Although planning officers recommended the scheme for approval, Norwich City Council's planning committee refused the application by seven votes to six.
The proposed development saw more than 50 objections being submitted by members of the public.
Concerns were raised that the development would lead to a reduction in sunlight in existing homes, while others suggested the revised scheme hadn't addressed the original concerns.
Councillors refused the latest application on the grounds it would have a detrimental impact on the existing residents of Carlton Terrace.
Even though the application was refused permission, an appeal has now been lodged which could still result in the original plans for 280 flats being delivered.
