Residents in Egham have hit out at plans to turn a former care home into student flats.

Those apposed to the development argue the town is being turned into a campus of the university in what they see as a relentless series of projects fundamentally changing the character of the town.

The original application to build student accommodation in Osborne Road was refused but developer DIZarchitects Ltd submitted revised plans last year.

The developer is now looking to deliver seven apartments, but residents still argue these will be rented out to students in what is a family-oriented road.

Chris Fisher, Egham Residents' Association's (ERA) planning coordinator said: "The application appears to be part of the process - something we repeatedly complain about - by which much of Egham is relentlessly being turned into a further campus of Royal Holloway."

Residents have also complained that there are not enough parking spaces in the road and the scheme will further exacerbate the situation.
