A pub in Nottingham could be transformed in student accommodation after plans to refurbish and extend the site were recommended for approval.

The Grove Pub at 273 Castle Boulevard has been expanded in recent years but is now boarded up and is starting to deteriorate.

The proposals to Nottingham City Council could result in the pub being transformed, with the upper 2 floors becoming student apartments. The loft space will also be converted into 5 student studios, whilst a three-storey rear extension will create space for a further 22 studios.

The pub on the ground floor will be retained and updated to bring it back into use.

Documents submitted as part of the application, said: "The proposed new build helps provide an injection of quality new architecture to the area while a sensitive renovation of the existing building maintains ties to the area's Victorian past."

"The partial adaptation and extension of The Grove will provide an influx of new life, one that could help sustain the other rejuvenating an otherwise derelict historical gateway of Nottingham."
