Student accommodation being managed by Glasgow University is expected to undergo renovation work before new students arrive in 2019.

The work will be carried out to the kitchen areas in the flats at Vasart Place, Monart Place and Caithness Street between June and August 2019.

An inspection carried our in October this year found problems will the communal kitchen areas and boilers.

Glasgow University has therefore agreed to accelerate maintenance work which will be completed when the buildings are unoccupied.

Commenting on the work, a spokeswoman for the university said: "There are properties which need to be renovated. Until this inspection we weren't planning to renovate them again."

"We have a window of opportunity to complete this work next summer. The kitchens in the larger flats were last upgraded around six years ago."

"They are still in working order by we are going to incorporate another surface at the bay window, put in more cupboards and install fridge-freezers."
