Residents have expressed their anger over plans to build 400 student flats in Brighton.

McLaren Property is looking to build the student housing at one Moulsecoomb Way, which will be within walking distance of both the University of Brighton and Sussex University.

According to McLaren's website: "Plans are still evolving, but they currently include the provision of 400 student bedrooms in purpose-built accommodation, more than 1,000 square metres of employment space as part of supporting the local economy, and 242 square metres of community space to allow public use of the development."

The site is currently occupied by a waste management facility but the applicant said the scheme would regenerate the area and benefit the community.

However, not everyone agrees with the plans. Residents are frustrated about other major developments that are happening in the area, with work having already started on the Preston Barracks project.

There are also concerns that the new scheme will lead to congestion and to an increase in pollution.

McLaren Property is holding a public meeting on the proposals tomorrow.
