Plans have been drawn up to build student accommodation in King's Road, Reading.

If the development is granted planning approval by Reading Borough Council, the scheme will be built on the site of the vacant office building Alexander House.

Applicant PJ Alexander Estates Ltd is looking to build 182 beds on the site located close to both Reading College and the University of Reading.

The company has experience in delivering developments in Reading, having built the McDonald's and Lidl properties, as well as the Oldfield Retail Park.

The Reading Design Review Panel reviewed the proposals at the end of last year and described them as a "high-quality contextual building", which is "elegant" in its design.

The project would see the demolition of the existing office and the construction of a new building with more than seven storeys.

Residents have already had an opportunity to view the proposals and provide feedback, with respondents agreeing the site needs to be redeveloped.

Commenting on the plans, Ben Roberts of PJ Alexander Estates Ltd, said: "This high-quality development will help meet the significant need for purpose-built student accommodation in Reading."

"We look forward to working positively with Reading Borough Council, residents and stakeholders to achieve a favourable outcome in the coming months."
