Developers are looking to build student accommodation for more than 70 students on a plot of land in Nottingham city centre.

Consisting of eight cluster flats, the development has been earmarked for the corner of Union Road and Curzon Street, off Huntingdon Street.

Under the plans, a total of 74 bedrooms will be created, with each featuring its own en-suite shower room.

According to John Taylor from Purico Ltd, the company behind the plans, the project will create "high quality" accommodation for students and the bedrooms would be bigger than standard sizes.

With the accommodation within walking distance to Nottingham Trent University, the site will have an abundance of facilities on its doorstep.

Documents submitted as part of the application added: "The scale of the building has been designed to be in keeping with that of the modern developments that now dominate the area rather than that of the existing buildings on the south side of Union Road."

Business leaders have backed the scheme, suggesting it is vital that the city is able to meet the demand for additional student accommodation.
