Plans to build a three-storey student accommodation block on a plagued site of a former pub have been submitted.

The Cliffe Vale Inn had been standing derelict for a number of years, resulting in increasing concerns of residents in the surrounding area that it was attracting anti-social behaviour and drug use.

The Inn has now been demolished and plans have been submitted to the council to convert the space into a 29-bedroom en-suite student accommodation complex. Whilst there will be no parking spaces, there will be communal lounges, kitchens and dining rooms. This news has been warmly received by residents.

A residents spokesperson said: "It has been an eyesore and derelict for a number of years and so this is a positive move. Stoke town has become a real hotspot for students and this has got rid of an eyesore."

"The local students love the bars and it's a good boost for the Stoke economy to have a lot of young people coming in. It has been an empty, troubled pub for years, and we didn't know what type of development would come - the fact it was knocked down was good news."

A decision on the application is expected in the coming weeks.
