A huge student accommodation development in Brighton has more supporters than opponents, with 52 comments backing the scheme.

The plans call for the construction of five to seven-storey buildings at One Moulsecoomb Way, replacing the KSD Environmental Services site and St Francis of Assisi Church.

The developer McLaren is looking to build 378 student bedrooms on the site, as well as offices and community space.

The same company was behind the Vogue Studios and Stoneworks developments located further along Lewes Road.

Those supporting the project see the removal of the waste transfer site as a positive development.

In January, Moulsecoomb and Bevendean ward councillor Daniel Yates presented a 1,250-signature petition calling for a new site for KSD Environmental due to concerns about safety and traffic.

Whilst supporters of the scheme also suggest that the additional accommodation will free up HMOs, which are typically used by students, opponents suggest this is not the case, with high rental costs in PBSA being a mitigating factor.

A public meeting is taking place in the first week of June for people to discuss their reaction to the application.
