Plans have been put forward to transform a hotel in Leicester into student flats.

The application could result in the Victoria Hotel in London Road being turned into student accommodation. However, full details of the project have yet to be released.

If the change of use is approved and comes to fruition it would potentially increase the number of students living off London Road and the New Walk area.

Local residents have previously expressed their concerns about the growing number of commercial and office properties being converted to student use, as well as the number of new buildings being proposed.

City ward councillor Patrick Kitterick Previously said: "There is a specific problem emerging with the New Walk area and the fact it is becoming, what urban design people would call 'a linear student halls of residence'."

"Anybody who walks up and down will see almost every single property becoming available is now being taken for student accommodation."

"In its totality it is changing the balance of that community."
