New student accommodation is planned for the Cedar Press site and although most say the plans are a step in the right direction many are worried about the potential impact to the local air pollution and increasing the demand on an otherwise stretched road network.

Sceptics also went on to say that the buildings would dwarf the surrounding areas. The development will have only 96 parking space 79 for the hotel and just 17 for the flats.

The 19 storey building in Southampton would be one of Southampton's tallest buildings.

Developers have said that this could become one of the largest buildings in Southampton and will thus serve as a landmark effect. The plans have been proposed by CHG developments Ltd, based in Poole and if their plans are approved the Cedar press site will be cleared to make way for this new development.

"The scheme is a delicate balance between providing high-quality design, and a viable and deliverable project meeting the housing and regeneration needs of Southampton." said on behalf of the developers by Phil Salmon.
